Eternal Joy MCC has a full month of celebrations

by Ken McLaughlin

Dayton—Eternal Joy Metropolitan Community Church has a full month of activities in celebration of Gay Pride Month. There is something for everyone—a concert, uplifting worship from a GLBTQ perspective, thought-provoking messages, and their biggest presence at Dayton's Pride celebration thus far.

June 3: Pride Fest March and Rally at Cooper Park and Courthouse Square.

Join Eternal Joy for the march, and look for their ice cream concession at the Courthouse Square rally, featuring Pierre's Ice Cream and Seattle East's coffee.

Eternal Joy's pastor, Rev. Mark Pridmore, has planned an inspiring, thought-provoking series of messages designed to make people think about God, love, and real family values in new, queer ways. There is also a message that focuses on how same-sex biblical relationships have paved the way for Jesus. They are on each Sunday in June:

June 4: "Not Just Another Pretty Face." This is a look at how men who self-identified as women helped God put a queen on her throne. God has a loving, prophetic purpose for the GLBTQ community.

June 11: "The Not-So-Straight-and-Narrow Road," a look at how same-sex rela-

tionships paved the way for Jesus and his radically inclusive love to come into the world. Also join the monthly carry-in luncheon immediately following the morning service.

June 18: “The Real Family Values of Jesus." The Christian right wing does not have a monopoly on "family" values. Come and hear what real family values are all about!

June 25: "Queerly Beloved." The radically inclusive, healing love of God extends to everyone. Hear how Jesus healed a centurion's beloved houseboy and had a life-changing chat with a woman shunned by her community.

Saturday, June 24: "Songs From the Road" with Carolyn Marshall and Pat Grant, an out, proud lesbian couple who sing God's love for all of us. The concert will be at 7 pm at Eternal Joy Church, 2382 Kennedy Avenue in Belmont.

Eternal Joy MCC is a multi-cultural, multi-racial Trinitarian Christian church. It is a member congregation of Metropolitan Community Churches, a Christian denomination with a positive, affirming ministry to the gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, intersexual and supporting communities. MCC includes more than 250 local congregations in 35 countries and 43,000 members and adherents around the world. Each year, more than 225,000 people attend MCC's services and programs.
